Rachel & Reeve: Engaged (but make it fashion)
I met Rachel a few summers ago at a July 4th party on a floating home belonging to good friends. She was a friend of theirs through dodgeball, and we’d continue to run in the same overlapping social circle for the next few years. Her other half, Reeve, another dodgeballer, used to go to summer camp in the small town in NH where I used to live, because it is indeed a small world.
When I went to Hawaii to photograph Sierra and Kyle’s wedding, Sierra didn’t have a maid of honor - but Rachel spent the morning with us getting ready. One of my favorite (funny) photos from that Hawaii wedding is of Rachel and Reeve and another friend, James, dancing.
Now it’s Rachel and Reeve’s turn to get married - and they thought of me (woohoo!).
Rachel had Big Ideas though, she has a keen eye for color and design, and she wanted to do something non-traditional for their engagement photos. Something stylized and editorial. It’s been a very long time since I took out my studio lights and used that side of my photography brain. But we agreed to work together to make this happen, and I showed up at their fantastic apartment in Portland, OR for an afternoon of laughs before a quick shoot outdoors in the last of the fall colors.
I know I’m really excited about what turned out to be a very collaborative shoot. It doesn’t look like a lot of my other work, and that was part of the fun I had.
Without further ado, Rachel and Reeve and their amazing modern engagement shoot.
