Sierra & Kyle, Engaged!

Sierra & Kyle at Latourell Falls

There are all sorts of ways to meet someone. It just so happens that here in Portland, one of those ways is adult sports leagues. I first met Kyle when he joined my husband’s kickball team, though he was also playing dodgeball with many of our friends.

One evening at a pickup dodgeball game, Sierra, fresh faced and naturally beautiful, breezed into the gym and immediately caught Kyle’s eye. Sierra was new to Portland and couldn’t have known that choosing to move here would change her life in countless ways.

Eventually, dodgeballs - and sparks - flew! They have since bought a home together, adopted a wonderful bouncy dog named Pendleton (he gives wonderful kisses), and adventured around Costa Rica together. I was so, so jealous of their meeting with a wild sloth, and I even commented on a photo of Sierra that I wanted to photograph her sometime. Their engagement came fairly quickly, no surprise to anyone who knows them and how well matched they are.

This summer at a July 4th party I overheard these two stunners were planning a wedding in Kailua-Kona, and I reminded them (only vaguely aggressively) that I love destination weddings. Some emails, and a quick meeting over drinks later, and we made our plans to head out to their favorite waterfall in the Gorge for engagement photos. (I also bought my tickets to Hawaii!)

We had the perfect fall afternoon, which here in the Pacific Northwest can really be tough to nail down. The day before had been so cold and so rainy - imagine our relief when the sun broke through the clouds just in time for us to go out together!

I can’t wait to spend some time in Hawaii with our group of friends, and to celebrate Sierra and Kyle’s big day! And of course, later next month I’ll share some highlights with you - both from my adventures around The Big Island and wedding photos of this gorgeous, fun loving couple!
